The largest con to granite countertops is the cost. Granite is one of the more expensive countertop choices on the market. If you are wanting to install your own kitchen countertops granite is not very do it yourself friendly. Since granite is a natural stone it is porous. You will want to seal your granite to avoid staining on your countertops.
Marble Countertops
Another natural stone option that many people choose for their countertops is marble. One the appeals of marble is that no two pieces of marble are alike. If you have marble installed your kitchen countertops will be entirely unique. Like granite, marble countertops are heatproof and add value to your home.
One of the largest cons of marble countertops is that the surface can be scratched. The scratches cannot be easily repaired. Marble is also expensive and stains easily. You will definitely want to seal marble countertops to avoid staining.
Quartz Countertops
Quartz is an engineered stone product. It contains as much as 93% quartz particles and other minerals that are then shaped into slabs and bound with resins. Quartz gives you the look of natural stone with a much smaller cost. It is easy to maintain, has no imperfections, can be made in any shape and size, and resists stain. The main downside of quart countertops is that they are heavy.
Solid Surface Countertops
Solid surface countertops are another great option. Many different brands make solid surface countertops that consist of a blend of acrylic particles and resins that are then pressed into sheets. They have been around for about 50 years. Solid surface material resists staining, damages can be easily sanded out, and they are available in many colors and patterns. There are a few cons here as well. They are vulnerable to damage from hot pans and they cannot be installed on your own.
